How to hard-reload on most browsers

Last updated on Nov 10, 2025

A hard reload forces your browser to bypass its cache and fetch the latest version of a webpage from the server. This is useful when VowChat has been updated or if you're experiencing display issues.

Google Chrome

Windows/Linux

  • Press Ctrl + F5

Mac

  • Press Cmd + Shift + R

Extra Method (DevTools)

  1. Open DevTools (F12 or right-click → Inspect)
  2. Right-click the refresh button
  3. Select "Empty Cache and Hard Reload"

Mozilla Firefox

  • Press Cmd + Shift + R

Extra Method (DevTools)

  1. Open DevTools (F12)
  2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
  3. Check "Disable Cache" while DevTools is open
  4. Refresh the page normally

Microsoft Edge

Windows

  • Press Ctrl + F5

Extra Method (DevTools)

  1. Open DevTools (F12)
  2. Right-click the refresh button
  3. Select "Empty Cache and Hard Reload"

Safari (Mac)

Mac

  • Press Cmd + Option + R

When to Use Hard Reload

Use a hard reload when:

  • VowChat displays outdated information
  • You've just updated your VowChat configuration
  • The interface appears broken or incorrectly styled
  • You're experiencing caching issues
  • Support has asked you to clear your cache

Regular Reload vs Hard Reload

  • Regular Reload (F5 or Cmd+R): Refreshes the page, may use cached files
  • Hard Reload (shortcuts above): Bypasses cache completely, downloads everything fresh

If hard reload doesn't solve your issue, you may need to fully clear your browser cache or contact support@vowchat.ai for assistance.
